Murali was a popular Tamil film actor who acted in many super hit movies of the 90s. He is the father of popular Tamil actor Atharvaa.
Murali worked in over 100 films and acted in leading and supporting roles in Tamil and Kannada cinema. In his film career, Murali acted with many stars including Vijaykanth, Karthik, Prabhu, Surya, Prabhu Deva, Mammootty, Meena, Revathi, Laila and Rambha.
Personal Life:
Murali was born on May 19, 1964 in Bangalore to Kannada director Siddalingaiah and was fondly popular as Mike Murali. He was married to Shobha and the couple was blessed with three children - Atharvaa, Akash and Kaavya. His son Atharvaa is a popular film actor.
Professional Career:
Since his childhood Murali was interested in films and started his acting career with the Kannada film "Prema Parva" in 1984. His first Tamil movie was Poovilangu which helped him make a name of himself in the film industry. This movie was followed by Pagal Nilavu, with actress Revathi, which was the first Tamil film of director Mani Ratnam. This movie garnered Murali great recognition as an actor. Murali portrayed the character of angry young man in his first few films which was later transformed into a soft natured hero. The film 'Idhayam' was one of Murali's successful movies in which he portrayed the role of a soft romantic hero. This character is still remembered as one of his finest roles. In 1990, he starred in the film Pudhu Vasantham which was a blockbuster and gave Murali much recognition.
Some of Murali's super hit films include Porkalam, Vetri Kodi Kattu, Poomani, Sundara Travels, Alithantha Vanam, Desiya Geetham, Thanga Manusukkaran, En Asai Machan, Anandam and Samuthiram. Murali also did a cameo in the film Baana Kaathadi in his last. Ironically, it was the debut film of his son Atharvaa.
Ill Health and Death:
Murali died on September 8, 2010 following a sudden massive heart attack in Chennai. The actor is survived by his wife Shobha, daughter and sons. Several film personalities attended the last rites of the actor.

Producer Sathyajothi Thygarajan: “I will miss a good friend. Only last Sunday we all celebrated the engagement of his daughter Kaavya in his house. In “Bana Kathadi”, he makes a statement about good heart health, ironically.”
Tamil film director Amirjan: Murali was a good person and a talented actor. “He was spotted by director K.Balachander who wanted me to use him in “Poovilangu.” The director was convinced of Murali's acting talents and the film's success proved this judgement right.”
Actor Kuyili: “he was a very good actor and was always on time to his shoot. One cannot forget his subtle performances on screen. The talented actor made it big in Tamil cinema with his unique style and ability to blend romance, pathos and comedy in the right measure.”
Awards and Recognition:
The state government awarded Murali for his acting in the film “Kadal Pookkal”.
